Vamsi Krishna Koduri

DevOps & Platform Engineer navigating cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes platforms, and distributed systems — building reliable, observable, and scalable environments.

My Story

My journey in DevOps started with a deep curiosity about how systems actually work in production. What began as managing servers and automating small tasks evolved into owning full platforms, designing cloud architectures, and operating Kubernetes workloads at scale.

Over time, my focus shifted from “making things work” to making them reliable, observable, secure, and cost-efficient. Today, I enjoy working at the intersection of infrastructure, platform engineering, and reliability — building systems that teams can trust and scale with confidence.

Experience — Career Phases

Phase I — Cloud & Infrastructure Foundations

AWS • Linux • Infrastructure as Code

Built strong fundamentals in cloud infrastructure and automation while supporting production and migration workloads.

  • Provisioned AWS resources (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC)
  • Designed VPC networking, subnets, routing, and security groups
  • Implemented Terraform and CloudFormation for repeatable environments
  • Automated server setup and maintenance using Python and Bash
  • Performed Linux administration and system tuning

Outcome: Developed a strong mental model of cloud systems and automation.

Phase II — CI/CD & Deployment Engineering

Jenkins • GitHub Actions • GitLab CI

Focused on improving deployment reliability and developer productivity through automation.

  • Built CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment workflows
  • Implemented rollback-safe release strategies
  • Standardized pipelines across multiple projects
  • Integrated Docker image builds and artifact versioning

Outcome: Faster, safer releases with reduced manual intervention.

Phase III — Kubernetes & Platform Ownership

kubeadm • Containers • Runtime Platforms

Transitioned into owning Kubernetes platforms and day-2 operations.

  • Designed and operated Kubernetes clusters
  • Managed Deployments, StatefulSets, probes, and autoscaling
  • Built on-prem Kubernetes platform using kubeadm along with MinIO and PostgreSQL
  • Configured Kong API Gateway for traffic management
  • Handled upgrades, scaling, and failure recovery

Outcome: Deep hands-on experience running production Kubernetes workloads.

Phase IV — Observability, SRE & Reliability

ELK • Prometheus • Grafana • Tracing

Focused on making systems observable and resilient.

  • Built centralized logging using ELK Stack (500GB+ logs/day)
  • Designed Logstash pipelines for infra, app, and security logs
  • Implemented metrics with Prometheus and dashboards in Grafana
  • Enabled tracing with Zipkin and Jaeger
  • Handled production incidents and performed RCA

Outcome: Reduced MTTR and enabled proactive reliability management.

Phase V — Architecture, Cost Optimization & Leadership

FinOps • Architecture • Mentorship

Currently focused on architectural thinking, cost awareness, and mentoring.

  • Drove AWS cost optimization practices
  • Right-sized compute and optimized storage strategies
  • Designed hybrid and multi-environment architectures
  • Built Archlyzer, a cloud architecture design platform
  • Mentored junior engineers and defined operational standards
  • Successfully completed DevOps competency, GenAI, and SMB audits, supported marketplace product launches, and delivered required FTRs.

Outcome: Transitioned from operator to platform and architecture thinker.
